Why The Institute Exists

Applied behavior analysis has developed a powerful science for understanding and changing behavior. The mission of the field attracts people who care deeply about helping learners build meaningful, autonomous lives.
But clinical practice is complex.
Early in their careers, behavior analysts are often expected to design programs, supervise staff, and make high-stakes clinical decisions in real time. They are asked to solve difficult clinical problems while still learning how to think through those problems themselves.
You care deeply about doing the work well.
You are trying to figure it out.
When progress is slow or unclear, the pressure can lead to frustration, self-doubt, and burnout rather than the growth that thoughtful mentorship and practice should produce. Without strong mentorship and opportunities to learn through real clinical work, even talented clinicians can find themselves feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or alone in the work.
And when clinicians are not given the opportunity to develop fluency in their craft, the consequences are felt most by the learners and families who depend on thoughtful, well-designed instruction.
The Institute for Clinical Excellence was created to change that.
At The Institute, clinicians strengthen their clinical thinking, instructional design, and real-time decision-making through mentorship, analysis, and guided experience in practice.
Our goal is simple: to help clinicians become the kind of practitioners they set out to be when they entered the field.
What Makes Our Approach Different
Developing clinical competence requires more than coursework or certification. At The Institute, learning moves from conceptual understanding to guided application in real clinical work.
1
Conceptual Learning
Each training experience begins with focused instruction on the principles, analysis, and decision-making frameworks that guide strong clinical practice.
2
Guided Workshops
Participants then move into structured workshops where they apply these ideas to real clinical scenarios—analyzing behavior, examining data patterns, and designing instruction alongside experienced clinicians.
3
Real Clinical Practice
Learning culminates in direct application within clinical environments. Participants observe, analyze, and participate in instruction with learners while receiving real-time coaching and feedback on their clinical thinking and decision-making.
Our Programs
The Institute offers several ways for clinicians and organizations to engage in meaningful professional development. Whether you are looking to deepen your own clinical thinking or strengthen the skills of an entire team, our programs are designed to move beyond passive learning and into real clinical growth.
Our Connection to Precision ABA
The Institute for Clinical Excellence grew out of the clinical work of Precision ABA, a practice that has provided applied behavior analysis services to children and families for more than a decade. Through years of direct clinical practice, Precision ABA has developed an approach to care grounded in thoughtful analysis, strong instructional design, and a deep respect for the experience of the learner.
The Institute was created to extend the lessons learned through that clinical work into the training and development of practicing clinicians. By building on insights gained through real clinical practice, The Institute aims to strengthen the preparation of clinicians across the field and support the development of thoughtful, capable practitioners.
While The Institute operates as a distinct educational initiative focused on professional training and clinician development, its work continues to be informed by the ongoing clinical practice of Precision ABA.
